Straw from Florence

Straw from Florence is the material we love to boast about at Primario Nesti!

This ancient Tuscan factory was born in 1700, when Domenico di Sebastiano Michelacci, a Bolognese who moved to Tuscany, had a golden intuition: instead of continuing to produce hats with straw discarded from bread making, he thought of sowing marzuolo wheat specifically for headgear more refined!

Ancient tradition

For a long time, its manufacture was exclusive to the so-called Tuscan "trecciaiole" , who braided straw during long chats in the courtyard.

Wheat braid

This is how Paglia di Firenze was born, characterized by a very dense braid of wheat , hand -crafted with enchanting skill for over three centuries.

Today, the secret of weaving is in the skilled hands of very few artisans.

We at Primario Nesti are honored to collaborate with them, finishing each hat down to the smallest detail, strictly by hand in our family hat shop.
